The MFWI Library

In 1994, Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute opened a new library. The library collection supports student and faculty needs. Materials have been selected based on an ESL curriculum and are high interest level, yet meet the differing language capabilities of the students. Special emphasis has been placed on American history (especially Pilgrims, Colonial times, Revolutionary War, Civil War, and pioneers), cultural diversity, American literature, women’s issues and current events.

The library has over 9,000 items, including books, magazines, newspapers, videos, CDs, DVDs, and other recordings. Features include computer catalogs with Internet access as well as listening stations for video and audio materials . A listening project to promote students’ understanding of native speakers is also available. The reference collection features materials suitable for ESL materials and research.

Students and teachers who use the library have access to state-of-the art technology resources which include two Internet-connected computer labs, a large number of laptops with wireless connectivity, SmartBoard technology and teleconferencing.
